You might consider Jesus a study in contrasts. On the one hand, he is compassionate to the adulteress. On the other, he appears hair-triggered to undermine the religious hypocrisy of his day. No doubt he would be branded a troublemaker in most American churches today.

Think about your current church or system. Imagine if a leader this clear, this resolute, and this determined were influential. What if that leader operated outside the established leadership hierarchy?

What if this person’s no-nonsense approach began to enjoy a following from many outside the institutional mainstream.

Jesus was resolute in His commitment to model, bring, and defend the Kingdom of His Father. Period.

Often, we Christian leaders fail to reflect Jesus’ resolute commitment. But we are tasked in large part with challenging our congregations to change.

The question is, will we take up that challenge?
