Pastors are often expected to entertain, inform, and comfort the flock as they race from hospital bed to living room to quell their members every anxiety. In these settings they’re often held hostage by leadership boards, influential individuals, or small coalitions in their churches who wield exceptional power.

As a result, pastors are stymied in undertaking bold initiatives that require significant sacrifice on the part of the congregation. They’re never to challenge, upset, or provoke their people.
When they do—even when Scripture requires that they do—pastors are routinely attacked, opposed, and too often fired.
